It was very interesting to see the different perspectives of LMS users. I have been so used to seeing it from the learner's point of view that I failed to consider the educator/administrator and executives who may not have direct contact with the system, but have invested their money into it. Considering all of those involved I came up with the following top ten:
10. The system must be flexible enough to meet diverse needs of all involved, from learner to executive.
9. The system must have longevity to ensure the availability of the software for years to come.
8. The LMS must provide technical support.
7. The LMS must electronic commerce capability. This is helpful for things like registration costs for universities.
6. The LMS must be compatible with a wide variety of browsers.
5. The software should integrate all of the information resources of an organization into a single platform.
4. The software should have the capability to transfer student records to different administrative platforms.
3. The LMS should have the ability to promote asynchronous and synchronous online conversations through chat and forum capabilities.
2. The LMS should be compatible with an organization's existing infrastructure.
1. The LMS should be cost effective, showing positive ROI either based on the number of learners who are involved or comparing the cost of previous training verses the cost of the LMS itself.
