Educational Radio: This is something new to me. I had never heard of this particular learning management before. I didn’t even know that it was the first tool educators used to teach distance learning. Researchers in this study concluded that the learning outcomes of a distance education with similar course face to face show no difference between the two course formats. I might have to agree with this conclusion because being in the EDTEC program, I can put myself in that position and know that I can perform the same way I would have if I was in a face to face classroom.
eLearning has grown in government organizations: I always thought that the military had a lot of interactions with instructors since they would need a lot of hands-on activities and exercises. I also thought that because everything is classified information that the military would avoid distance learning to prevent information being leaked out. Finding that the eGovernment initiated the use of IT investments to eliminate wasteful federal spending to reduce government’s paperwork amazed me. I’m not convinced that they are saving any money but I know that they are trying to keep up with the current demand worldwide.
Sesame Street: One other learning management that surprised me is the effectiveness of Sesame Street television show. I did not know that Sesame Street was created to gear toward many children living in inner cities who were deprived of adequate learning. I remember watching it when I was younger and kept wondering why they always had a background of the city and a trashcan. I’m impressed that this show was so effective that it helped many children who were left alone to learn by themselves.
