Ryan Hakoda and Mike Andrews Final Cut Course

For all of the sessions, the content will be delivered first by a video teaching the learners what they need to know to accomplish by the end of the session. Following the video, they will then work through text based step by step directions asking them to accomplish the specific tasks identified in each session.

At the end of each session the learners will then be given an automated quiz with multiple choice, true false, and short answer questions providing immediate feedback on how well they are grasping the content.

Session 1 – This session will introduce the learners to Final Cut Pro. It will cover an explanation of terms and their purposes, and an overview of the Final Cut Pro interface. In addition, the following specific tasks will be covered:
• Open a file in Final Cut Pro
• Keep footage organized by properly labeling them
• Create full length clips into shorter clips
• Make sublcips and bins
• Use proper tools to perform a specific function
• Use shortcuts in selecting each tool
• Make basic cuts
• Add transitions and titles to timeline
• Inserting audio under footage and adjusting the speed of the clip.
• Render edited footage

Session 2 – This session will present a second level of editing with different features Final Cut Pro has to offer including an introduction to the ‘time code’ feature and its importance. In addition, the following specific tasks will be covered:
• Layer footage and audio
• Crop footage
• Change opacity level
• Adjust brightness and contrast
• Make footage black and white
• Place and rotate footage
• Create still frames
• Use time code for exact frame reference

Session 3 – This session will introduce effects and the ways they can be used to enhance a video as well as what not to do to blemish it. Learning how to use markers to make note of particular frames for easier editing will be emphasized. Also, an introduction to the beginning steps for importing their own footage will be provided. In addition, the following specific tasks will be covered:
• Choose and apply effects
• Fade effects in/out
• Use in/out markers for both audio and footage
• Logging and Capturing footage
