Lesson One
Students will be introduced to the six literary devices; lines which demonstrate the literary devices well will be supplied for students to read and analyze. Students will use their journals to copy and complete a table from moodle with examples of literary devices. These tables can be used as a reference in future activities. For this week’s assignment, students will need to find a poem that demonstrates some of the literary devices discussed. Finally, they will participate in a forum discussion where they will be asked to post a link or a copy of the poem and point out the literary devices used and the line(s) where they are used.

Lesson Two
Students will be analyzing poetry. This lesson will introduce students to poems that use the six discussed devices well. Students will work collaboratively to summarize and analyze the poems; each group will be responsible for a particular poem. Journals will be used for students to identify the literary device(s) used by the author, and the effect the device has on the poem. Students will share their findings during an online discussion. They will evaluate the impact of the literary device(s) in their poem in a paragraph or two posted to a form discussion. Upon completion of lesson two, students will take a quiz of literary devices and their use.

Lesson Three
As individuals students will analyze a particular poem. Students will read a poem and complete a brainstorming activity and post it to the course form. A short essay (2-3) paragraphs will be drafted and finalized in Microsoft Word. Students will then upload their completed essay via moodle.
