Reading the article was very interesting. I can envision the EMS and the way this would work in our society. It would save a lot of money or use the money in a more productive way. Students would be able to choose what courses to take and not have to sit through a course they didn’t care for just because it was a general education requirement. The one problem would be for campus life but that was addressed by allowing students to stay at a campus for room and board even if they aren’t taking classes by a professor there.

If I was to design my own LMS of the future, I feel like it would be a lot like the one described in the article. My LMS would be individualized so it could be student and instructor centered instead of administrative or government centered. The LMS can mold and change to what a student would like to study or what an instructor would like to teach. There wouldn’t be standardization of courses or standards that need to be taught in each course. My LMS would take a constructivist approach where students would have to create their own knowledge of each subject with the instructor’s guidance.

In more general terms, this is what I want my future LMS to have:

• Flexibility- it needs to be flexible to each learner’s individual goals and schedules. Synchronous classes will be held but learner won’t be penalized for missing a certain number of them and completing the class session asynchronously. Also no set course outline for each student to take. Allow them to explore with the courses that interest them.

• Accessible- the software and interface will need to work on both Mac and PC as well as multiple interfaces so that any student would be able to access it with minimal technology requirements.

• Interactivity- the courses need to maintain and environment that demands students to interact with each other and with the instructor. Social skills are extremely important to succeed in our society and we need to foster those skills, especially if most courses will take place online. My LMS will have the requirement of large group, small group, partner and individual with instructor discussions with video feed on a weekly basis.
