Module 1: Writing Process and editing lesson
Objective:
1.0 Writing Strategies -Students write clear, coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central idea. Their writing shows they consider the audience and purpose. Students progress through the stages of the writing process (e.g., prewriting, drafting, revising, editing successive versions).
1.1 Select a focus, an organizational structure, and a point of view based upon purpose, audience, length, and format requirements.
1.2 Create multiple-paragraph compositions:
a. Provide an introductory paragraph.
b. Establish and support a central idea with a topic sentence at or near the beginning of the first paragraph.
c. Include supporting paragraphs with simple facts, details, and explanations.
d. Conclude with a paragraph that summarizes the points.
e. Use correct indention.
1.3 Use traditional structures for conveying information (e.g., chronological order, cause and effect, similarity and difference, and posing and answering a question).
1.10 Edit and revise selected drafts to improve coherence and progression by adding, deleting, consolidating, and rearranging text.

Module 2: Collaborative Narrative Wiki
Objective:
2.1 Write narratives:
a. Relate ideas, observations, or recollections of an event or experience.
b. Provide a context to enable the reader to imagine the world of the event or experience.
c. Use concrete sensory details.
d. Provide insight into why the selected event or experience is memorable.
Learning Activity: Students will work to write multi-paragraphs in a collaborative narrative wiki which includes a compiled glossary module.
1) They will begin collaborating about what they know (or imagine) about hereos and public service workers, like policemen and firefighters. What would it be like? What do they go through? Experiences and narratives will be posted to the wiki.
2) They will create an outline with an introduction, conclusion, and begin to create elements for supporting paragraphs.
3) They will begin a compiled glossary relative to the content.
4) Then they will research and visit either a police station and/or fire station.
5) They will add learned information, observations, and recollections of their visit to their Wiki and formulate an appropriate closing or conclusion to their wiki.
6) They will edit the wiki in groups until they have a final narrative of their learned experience and outcomes.

Module 3: Literary response Forum
Objective: Student will use forum to post responses to the Book James and the Giant Peach.
2.2 Write responses to literature:
a. Demonstrate an understanding of the literary work.
b. Support judgments through references to both the text and prior knowledge.
Students will respond to independently read designated literature in a forum setting.
Learning Activity: 1) Throughout the independent reading timeline, students will be required to post at least one comment for every 5 chapters.
2) At preset intervals, students will be asked to choose two of the characters in the story. They will use the appropriate named character forum for them to respond to the behaviors, attitudes, and personalities of these characters. They should relate the actions of the characters to something or someone they connect with in their own lives or of the world.
3) Thoroughout the read, students will be expected to reply with insightful and correlational commentary to at least 4 other forum posts with a minimum of 1 paragraph per post.

Module 4: Summary Blogs
Objective: Students will create and respond to blog summaries of one of their class readings in their student anthologies.
2.4 Write summaries that contain the main ideas of the reading selection and the most significant details.
Learning Activity: Students will blog about the books that they read throughout the year by providing a well-constructed summary of at least 2 selections from their anthology. They will also reply to at least two other summary blogs to add details or suggestions for completing or organizing the summary in an effort to ensure accuracy of the summary.
