Following are three lessons sampled from a proposed course for fourth grade students covering the California mission period. The course is intended to be a blended learning experience, combining classroom instruction and supporting activities with online learning.

Lesson One: Students are introduced to the founding of the California missions. They will view an interactive map showing their locations and an interactive timeline. They will explore websites offering virtual tours of the missions.

Lesson Two: Students will divide into groups for a Project Based Lesson asking them to role play in an imagined scenario where they have been asked to select a location for the next mission. They will post a journal entry to a forum expressing their point of view in the assigned role.

Lesson Three: Students are assigned a mission to research. They will conduct online research and prepare a PowerPoint presentation with the information. A PowerPoint template will be posted for students to download. The finished presentation will be posted for the class to view.
