LMSs and EMSs have impacted the way we learn today. As learning and technology evolves LMSs/EMSs need to do so as well. Education has no boarders, LMSs and EMSs eliminate the need for a physical learning institution. LMSs and EMSs of the future need to provide access to collaboration and should promote the sharing of information, giving users access to multiple information sources and perspectives. LMSs/EMSs of the future need to be technology friendly, they need to be able to use technologies as they become available. Integration of these technologies would facilitate collaboration, learning, and tracking.

As an elementary teacher, In the future I’d like to see students introduced to LMSs/EMSs at an early age. To do these LMSs/EMSs of the future need to become more kid friendly. They should including a simple easy to use student home page which students could build and add content to. This would allow them to create their own learning space to fit their needs. In addition to being more kid friendly, it needs to be user friendly; after all the overall success of a LMS/EMS depends on the user’s experience. Integrating statistical options, grading options, course/class management, etc will increase the probability of instructors using the LMS/EMS.

I envision LMSs/EMSs being the direction our education system will soon have to take. My concern is interactions at a distance are not the same as live interactions. Social skills are a necessity. The LMS/SMS of the future needs to provide social interaction, more than face to face camera interactions. I agree that structure and dialogue will reduce the transactional distance but I’m not convinced it will be enough interaction to provide younger learners the necessary social skills. Perhaps a live class focusing on social skills will need to be included.
