When I think about how education is today, it is clear that we are not meeting the needs of every child. There are many children left behind everyday. Here are my ideas for the LMS of the future:

1) Accessibility: Learners should have many options as far as learning platforms go (small group, video, audio, email), and learning implements such as textbooks, computer programs, internships, virtual reality, etc.

2) Flexibility: Learners should have the flexibility of choosing when they want to learn during the day and during what part of the year. Learning should not be restricted to the hours of 7:30am-3:00pm or from September to June

3) Personalized Education: Once students have demonstrated mastery in a specific standard, they can move on to another standard or subject area. The incentive is that once they demonstrate mastery, they can choose something that is more relevant to their needs and wants. Maybe learners have from September to November to demonstrate mastery of a set of standards. If they master the standards at the end of September, they could either continue on to the next set, choose elective standards that interest them, earn points for tutoring, or just simply relax.

4) Internship Opportunities: Does school really prepare you for the real world? No, the real world prepares you for the real world. Students should be able to participate in internships earlier than their last year of college. How about at the late middle school age level and up so they are exposed to a variety of occupations by the time they are college bound. This way they might not have to spend most of college figuring out what they want to do with their life because they will already know.

5) Mentoring Programs: Learners teaching learners demonstrates mastery of a subject. This also teaches responsibility and parts of character education. This will also eliminate large class sizes (real or virtual) and reduce costs.
