The instructor will use the Quiz Module available in Moodle to assess the knowledge gained after completing lesson two. The quiz will address student understanding of key battles and events as seen through the eyes of four separate military leaders early in the Civil War. This formative assessment will aid student learning by checking for understanding prior to moving on to the next lesson. Students will be asked to specifically demonstrate knowledge of:

  • The role of four major military leaders (Jackson, McClellan, Grant, Farragut)
  • The First Battle of Bull Run
  • The naval battle between the Monitor and the Merrimack
  • The Battle for Antietam
  • The Battle at Shiloh
  • Map skills - understanding a map

    Before attempting this in-class quiz, students will have filled out a Circle Map for defining content and participated in a moderated Socratic chat within Moodle.
