Deliverable 1: "Everything I Know About..." Forum Posts
Two forum posts–one prior to and one following the viewing of the video on adaptations -- since this occurs prior to content delivery, it helps set students up for learning what an adaptation is so that they can later define this key term. This is an in-class assignment for session 1.
Deliverable 2: All About Animal Adaptations Individual Wiki Page
Students work individually to complete the wiki page that summarizes the content of the video, based on Notebook Sheet 11. The finished page includes formatted text and at least one image that represents the text. This activity gives each student the opportunity to demonstrate objectives 1 and 2 (define adaptation, name four types of adaptations) as an individual learner. This is an in-class and at-home assignment for session 1.
Deliverable 3: Adaptations Group Wiki Page
Students work in groups of four to complete a template-based wiki page based on Notebook Sheet 10. The group's wiki page will cover four different habitats/environments and name animals that display each type of adaptation in those environments. This activity gives students the opportunity to demonstrate objectives 1 and 2 (define adaptation, name four types of adaptations) as a group. This is an in-class assignment in session 2 that may be completed at home as needed.
Deliverable 4: Home-School Connection Blog Entry
Students complete the Home-School Connection activity and post their findings to the blog. In the blog entry, the student compare and contrast the structures and features (adaptations) of a crayfish to one other insect, and how they structures and features help the crayfish and insect survive. This activity addresses objective 3 as students identify specific adaptations of the crayfish. This is a homework activity in session 3.
