Type & description of collaborative interactions:
Session 1: Students/groups will utilize breakout rooms to collaborate while researching assigned food group. Groups will create three ppt slides to use as they share their knowledge with classmates by responding to the following prompts:
1. Identify five foods belonging to food group.
2. Recommended amount (# of servings) of food to be consumed from the food group.
3. Appropriate serving size of foods in the food group.
Session 2: Students will submit menu choices to the class forum. Peer reviewers will evaluate menu choices according to the three assignment requirements. Review will be submitted in class forum. Does the meal meet the three assignment requirements?
1. All five food groups are represented in their food choices.
2. The meal should not exceed 700 calories (1/3 of daily caloric needs).
3. Students only have $7.00 to spend.
Session 3: Individually, students will complete the one day food diary in the forum area. Students will be randomly paired and sent to a breakout room for the purpose of collaboration and peer evaluation of food diary. Students will share their food diary and respond to these prompts when reviewing partner's diary.
1. Does this diet meet the requirements of My Pyramid?
2. Has this student considered appropriate serving size?
3. What recommendations can you offer to help your classmate eat a more balanced diet?
Session 4: Individually, students will complete the seven day food diary on their personal class wiki page. In addition, students will be required to review, analyze, and reflect on the food diaries of three classmates. The following reflection prompts will be posted directly to the student pages:
1. Has this student completed his/her food diary for seven days?
2. Did they include all of the required information (food/beverage description and serving size)?
3. How does this diet meet the requirements of “My Pyramid”?
4. In your opinion, has this student considered appropriate serving size?
5. What recommendations can you offer to help your classmate eat a more balanced diet?
