Assessment Tools:
The following assessment tools will be used:
1. Students Interactive Notebook (SIN)—will provide evidence that students downloaded the Cornell notes and understood how to take Cornell notes in accordance with my first objective.
2. Students will use 3 different forums from my Moodle site for the unit on HSS 7.1 The Fall of Rome. As per the job aid and rubric provided on the site, students will adhere to proper writing conventions, etiquette, and adequate topic and support statements for the three summaries they will write after the three sets of Cornell notes they took on these three sections of their Holt books:
• 2.1 Strengths and lasting contributions of Rome (day 1, 2.1)
• 2.2 Reasons for the fall of the Western Roman Empire (day 2, 2.2)
• 2.3 The Byzantine Empire (day 3, 2.3)
3. In their SINs, a map of Rome at it’s height colored to indicate their knowledge of Rome’s geographic borders at its height. This map will indicate that students were able to use the resource link to the Holt website from Moodle and download a file from Moodle in order to synthesize their understanding of Rome’s borders.
4. SINs – a graphic organizer of the contributions of Rome and possible theories for Rome’s fall. This will demonstrate that students were able to download files and then use the Moodle site to access an outside resource in order to perform a web-based simulation that helped students understand the reasons for Rome’s fall and lasting contributions. Then, using a rubric and job aid, students will be able to write a Eulogy of Rome that will be stored in their digital lockers. In addition, they will need to attach it and submit it using the teacher’s email address. Alternatively, a blog could be used for students to submit the Eulogy and provide feedback for their classmate’s Eulogies.
5. Students will post on a forum to the instructor the results of the practice quiz they took on the Holt website.
6. Using the Moodle quiz tool, students will take a formal assessment to see if they were able to meet the standards in accordance with HSS 7.1 The Fall of Rome.
