Distance Learning Connects Classes in Every Alabama School

High schools across Alabama now are using technology to "level the playing field" between students in poorer schools and those in the more well-funded districts. Using a system called Access and web-based video conferencing classes, students who want to take a class that is not offered in their own schools can enroll in technology-based options. By this method, a student who could not otherwise take German IV, AP Calculus, or a number of other courses is able to. Many of the courses offered by Access or web conferencing are, in fact, advanced placement level courses, which are not economically viable for many schools to offer. By banding together using technology, these schools are able to offer more variety and a more individualized education.
