Although there were many interesting facts in this article about distance education, including many historical connections, I am reporting on the following three:
1. Educational radio was initiated to support farmers. (I never even thought about radio's infancy in this way, let alone for farmers!)
2. Iowa State University was the first to broadcast educational TV (1950). (I just assumed it was Romper Room and Sesame Street.)
3. Western Governors University let's students earn academic credit for learning experiences within the workplace. (I just heard a presentation by a WGU research director yesterday at the AACTE convention, but he didn't talk about earning credits from work experience.)
