Moodle forum posts will be the main type of deliverable in this course. This module was chosen over the Moodle assignments module because it allows participants to receive feedback from classmates as well as the instructors. Students will post their homework assignments to designated Moodle forums and they will respond to the posts of several classmates.
During Week One, participants will compose a forum post based on their analyses of a video clip of an informal science workshop. This forum post will allow the course instructors to determine how well participants can identify and categorize effective questioning strategies. Similarly, participants will strengthen their understanding of questioning techniques by reading and responding to the posts of their classmates.
During Week Two, participants will post reflections based on two articles that they read. They will be required to describe two things that they learned from reading the articles. Combined with the assignment of audiotaping their own instruction, these posts will allow students to reflect on their own practices and to develop a deeper understanding of questioning strategies.
In Week Three, participants will write a two- to three-page reflection paper about their experiences in the course. This paper will allow participants to reflect on the successes and challenges associated with modifying their programs to include effective questioning techniques. It will also help them to identify areas where they may need to make further improvements.
