Forum posts and chat sessions will be used during the course. These collaborative tools were chosen because they contribute to community building in an online environment. This is particularly important in a course devoted to improving instructional strategies. Feedback from classmates is essential for participants to grow and reflect.

Participants will complete three original forum posts. They will also be required to respond to the posts of their classmates. During Week One, participants will post their analyses of a video clip of classroom instruction. In Week Two, they will create posts describing two things that they learned from reading assigned articles. In Week Three, participants will compose a reflection paper based on their experiences in the course. They will post their reflections to the designated forum and receive feedback from their classmates.

Chat sessions will be used to allow small groups of participants to communicate in real-time. These small group discussions will take place during Week Two of the course. Participants will be divided into groups of three to four and assigned to a particular date and time for their chat sessions. During these sessions, students will reflect on their audiotape assignment. They will describe their own experiences with listening to their taped instruction and provide feedback to other participants. All of the chat sessions will remain accessible throughout the course. This will allow all of the participants to view the chat logs of other classmates.
