Session 1: Note-taking assignment
• Learners will highlight important/supporting details within an assigned article and write the main idea of each paragraph using comment boxes (uploaded in assignments). This is a homework assignment that should demonstrate their ability to distinguish main idea and supporting details. This assignment is the first step of several to successfully writing a summary.
Session 2: Graphic organizer assignment
• Learners will complete a graphic organizer using the notes previously done in Session 1 (uploaded in assignments). This is a homework assignment that builds on the first assignment. They are now working on organizing the main ideas and supporting details for composition. There is also a reflection part to this assignment in which they give and receive peer feedback.
