Each session of the course will have a science content component and an investigation and experimentation component.
The first session will introduce the concept of heat as thermal energy and the idea that it flows between objects that come into contact with each other through a process called conduction. This session will also describe the components and the importance of the scientific method to building knowledge. This content will enable the learners to work toward meeting the objectives of formulating their own hypothesis and experiment and refining their understanding of conduction.
The second session will build on the understanding created by the first, adding the concepts of conductor and insulator to that of thermal energy. Students will share and discuss experiment ideas, form collaborative groups, and design and outline the experiments that they will perform.
