Characteristics of an Effective LMS

4. Technical Features-Technical support and ease of compatibility and implementation is important.

5. SCORM/IMS- Sharable Content Object Reference Model standards ensures that content can be used across multiple environments and systems. Instructional Management Systems model ensures that multiple authors can work together.

6. Cooperation of Learning Management and Knowledge Management Systems-Allows instructional designers, course developers, and human resource development professionals to collaborate on developing programs that address knowledge management, and learning needs of an organization as coherently as possible.

7. Multiple Products and Platforms-Providing various levels and lines of products allows the LMS to differentiate to customers. Differentiating can help the longevity of the company.

8. Course Authoring Tools-Important for allowing organizations to modify the system according to their needs.

9. Interactivity-The LMS must provide ways for administrators, teachers, and students to customize so that it is interactive and relevant for all.

10. Return on Investment-It is important that the initial cost of the LMS be outweighed by its benefits in the long term.
