* The first session will focus on describing the world in terms of both physical and political geography. The class will explore the idea of how countries and cities are man-made concepts while continents are landforms that exist outside of man's construct.The students will revisit their previous learning and expand their knowledge concerning the following:
o creating working definition for a continent
o names of the seven continents
o creating working definition of a country
o within the definition of a country explore the other types of political divisions: states, counties, provinces, cities.
o exploring maps to give them practice distinguishing between both continents and countries, as well as countries and cities.
* Session #2 will look at various types of maps. The difference between physical maps and political maps will be explained, when each might be used, and examples of each will be explored. The advantages and disadvantages of combining the two types will be discussed. Several types of special purpose maps will be explored, exposing the students to ways maps can be used to show multiple types of information.This will include:
o population density maps
o natural resources maps
o climate maps
o vegetation maps
