Session 1:
Students will read the text "Tuning in Trouble" and underline unknown vocabulary as they read; students will describe the topic of the essay and what the author says about the topic.
Session 2:
Students will reread the text and begin charting or annotating the text.
Students will conclude by creating a diagram of the text to differentiate its argument, claims, and evidence.
Session 3:
Students will write a précis of the text.
Session 4:
Students will read the text "In Defense of Talk Shows" and underline unknown vocabulary as they read; students will describe the topic of the essay and what the author says about the topic.

Students will write a summary of the text.
Session 7:
Students will read and annotate "Why Ordinary Americans like Daytime Talk Shows." Pairs will create a précis of the text and share out to the class.
