There will be a lesson quiz at the end of each session.

Session One Quiz: requires to students to identify the five major motives for European imperialism and a short description of each type. They will be given an excerpt from Rudyard Kipling’s poem “The White Man’s Burden” and be asked to identify which of the five motives are depicted in the poem and how these are manifested. This gives them a chance to prove mastery of the first learning objective and that they can apply that knowledge in analyzing a historical document.

Session Two Quiz: requires students to identify the four methods of control used by Imperial Powers. They will then read a case study on British control of Nigeria from their textbooks. They will be asked to highlight which of the four methods of control the British used to control Nigeria (they can argue that more than one method was used) and provide evidence from the case study to support their answer(s). This will determine if students have met the second learning objective and can apply their knowledge in analyzing a historical case study.
