I thought this would be appropriate since I did the LMS comparison on Moodlerooms. It seems that Moodlerooms has just release a data exchange tool and two new partnership programs with Cisco and the use of plug-ins.
A huge perk for these new tools is the ability to automate tasks and exchange data between information systems. This will eliminate all the time and effort school administrations do at the start of each new semester. There will be no manual data entry, or an extensive enrollment process. It will enhance the use of templates and re-using courses as well as streamline grade information.
It seems like this is where a lot of the learning management systems are going and it is great that this for-profit company that provides services to an open source management system is keeping up with the pack.
The best part about this is the teaming with Cisco and their WebEx Training Center. This will allow the full capabilities of WebEx video and phone conferencing to be created, facilitated, recorded and tracked through Moodle. Making Moodle more of a one-stop shop. Scheduling and attendance will show up on Moodle, as well as the grade book will be integrated.
Lastly, the partnering with a plug-in program will allow a slew of new features from pod casting to e-portfolios.
They are on the right track to providing the right balance of management control, personalization, and functionality.
